Last week in art students began learning about Contemporary Art. Contemporary Art is artwork created in the late 20th and 21st century. The artists we are studying are artists currently working in the industry. We are discussing what we see in their art and what it might mean or make us feel.
KG-Kindergartners are learning about street artist, Greg Mike and his signature Loudmouf Larry. They will be creating their own Loudmouf character. 1st-Students are learning about the cheerful artwork of Chris Uphues! His murals and designs often include smiling heart-shaped faces expressing various emotions. They will be creating their own collage of heart-faces. 2nd-Japanese artist Takashi Murakami is the inspiration for second graders for the next few weeks. His artwork has gained popularity with its exposure in the fashion and music industry. We will make our own Takashi Murakami inspired cartoon character on an iconic Murakami background. 3rd and 4th-Third and fourth graders will be making art in the style of L.A. based artist, Jen Stark. She is famous for her drip paintings, murals, and paper sculptures. Each student will create a paper paint dripping. These will be combined together to create a Jen Stark inspired installation! Stay tuned for their results! -Mrs. Kurasz
