I hope to see everyone at this years Art Show!
Families will be able to purchase framed artwork, pick up portfolios, create art, take a photo in the photo booth and more! It will be a creative night to make memories as a Plato family. -Mrs. Kurasz The school is a buzz with holiday cheer!
Students have been working hard in November and December creating winter themed artworks. Kindergartners created mixed media snowmen using oil pastels, tempera paint, and watercolor paint. They splatter painted a snowy background for their frosty friend. 1st grade learned about the salt resist process as they made a winter fox. They learned how terms in art can be applied to other content areas. 2nd graders created patterned figure skaters using multiple art mediums. They also learned about the salt resist process. 3rd grade students created 3-dimensional patterned hot cocoa drinkers. We used various materials to create texture and dimension. 4th grade made symmetrical nutcrackers. We transferred drawings using vine charcoal to create a perfectly symmetrical design. Metallic gold accent paint and cotton completed the soldiers. 5th grade completed 3 winter artworks all practicing creating value using different materials! They created a painted value winter sky, an oil pastel string of lights, and a colored pencil candy cane. Some of these artworks will be going to community art shows! Stay tuned for more details. -Mrs. Kurasz Before Thanksgiving break, PAT students were given an amazing
opportunity to meet a local, working artist! Ms. Crawford's longtime friend, Mr. Nelson, gave us the honor of visiting the school and telling our 5th graders about his story in becoming an artist. He shared his artworks with students, discussed the meaning behind them, and even instructed the class in creating their own imaginative painting. Thank you Mr. Nelson! Our colorful spider webs and starry night pumpkin patches are all but complete!
Here's a peek at some of the art we have hanging in the hallways here at school. -Mrs. Kurasz Check your student's backpack for their customized Square 1 Art catalog! Kindergartners are learning about the primary and secondary colors. They are creating a pumpkin patch mixing primary color paint to create secondary color paint. 1st grade students have been studying the life and art of Vincent van Gogh. We will be creating Starry Night Pumpkin Patches in his signature painting style. 2nd graders are learning about contemporary artist, Yayoi Kusama. She is famous for her use of pumpkins and polka dots in her art. We will be creating our own spotted pumpkins to honor her. 3rd grade is practicing creating value in their artworks. A spider web color wheel will be made from chalk pastels using a light, medium, and dark value for each hue. 4th graders are also creating color wheel spider webs, but including the final piece of the color wheel: intermediate colors. Students will be painting the primary, secondary, and intermediate colors on their web. 5th grade students are advancing their drawing skills by drawing in one-point perspective. A pumpkin patch with realistic perspective elements will be made using colored pencil. Look out for art around the school as we switch into high gear in the art room! -Mrs. Kurasz Square 1 Artworks are almost complete!
I love how these artworks are coming along. These will be the perfect artwork to adorn the quality products Square 1 Art provides. Whether you're buying items as a gift or keepsake, there is something for everyone. Keep an eye out for catalogs in October! -Mrs. Kurasz I am so excited for our Square 1 Artworks this year!
The inspiration for this year's artworks are nature and collage. A Collage is an artwork not made by drawing or painting, but by cutting and gluing decorated papers to create a new image. KG and 1st graders heard the story The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle. We discussed how they are much like the tiny seed in the story and will one day grow to do great things. Students will be painting and using oil pastel to decorate papers that will become their very own tiny seed inspired flower collage. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students are creating cacti and house plants. We will utilize various techniques to create textured, painted papers for our leaves and stems. Bright colors and patterns will decorate the background and pots for our plants. All of these elements will come together to create a unique, trendy work of art! I look forward to sharing some of these masterpieces as they come to completion! -Mrs. Kurasz Students are beginning to explore the creative centers in the art room!
Centers give students the opportunity to choose the medium or tools they would like to create with. They are able to exercise their creativity and imagination while practicing team work. Centers are used after the assignment for the day is complete. "Creativity is imagination having fun." -Albert Einstein Stay tuned for more updates on Square 1 Art and Centers -Mrs. Kurasz |
