In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month we are learning about Hispanic artists who have contributed to art history.
Kindergartners are learning about Spanish painter Pablo Picasso and making a cubist style portrait collage using oil pastels. 1st graders are also learning about Pablo Picasso and making a cubist style painting. 2nd graders are learning about Frida Kahlo, who famously created self portraits. They are creating portraits of themselves or someone else in a Mexican Nicho Frame. 3rd graders are learning about Spanish surrealist artist, Salvador Dali. They are making a surrealist elephant painting. 4th graders are learning the Mexican art form, Papel Picado. They are creating their own symmetrical Papel Picado designs that will be hung together as a banner in the school. 5th graders are learning about Dia de los Muertos and the popular sugar skulls that accompany this holiday. We are learning about the printmaking art process and making a series of prints in their design. Be sure to check back to see more photos of their progress! -Mrs. Kurasz |
