Third and fourth graders are learning about the inspirational portrait artist, Chuck Close. Through his deep understanding of color theory he is able to create photorealistic portraits using only organic shapes mapped along a grid. As a child he struggled in school with learning disabilities and facial blindness. As an adult he became a quadriplegic after suffering a spinal artery collapse. Chuck Close has persevered and continues to create large scale, portrait, artworks using adaptive tools.
Students are beginning their own color theory explorations to gain a deeper understanding of color relationships through the 100 Color Challenge! Students are working in pairs to create 100 unique colors using only red, blue, yellow, black, and white. -Mrs. Kurasz
