Plato Artists are learning all about color, shape, and line patterns to kick off the first project of the year!
KG and 1st- To begin our lesson on primary colors, we listened to the story, “Mixed” which has a wonderful message about diversity as well. Students experimented with mixing primary colors to create secondary colors and drew a “Mixed” style family portrait that we are now in the finishing stages of. 2nd and 3rd- Keith Haring is the focus for our first big project. We heard the story, “Keith Haring: The Boy Who Just Kept Drawing” which discussed the life of late street and pop artist Keith Haring. Our Keith Haring style artwork will be framed by a line pattern filled border. 4th and 5th- The artwork of Disney concept artist, Mary Blair, inspired our newest work. Students heard “Pocket Full of Colors” a story inspired by Mary Blair’s childhood and career. Her use of geometric shapes, bold colors, and a unique modern style made her work stand out to Walt Disney. We are creating Mary Blair castles similar to her design of the iconic It’s a Small World ride. I cannot wait to share some photos of completed student artworks with you! Stay tuned! 📺 -Mrs. Kurasz
